  • DESCRIPTION

This left hand drive GT 40 replica was built c2001 using a kit supplied by ERA replica automobiles of Hartford CT, USA. This company was one of the first in the America to start producing GT40 replicas, the kits boasted a stainless steel chassis of monocoque design very similar to the original, an accurate hand laid fibre glass body and correctly designed suspension units that had similar geometry, the rear suspension specifically designed to mate to a 5 speed ZF transaxle gearbox as was the original Ford design. Unfortunately production of these well respected cars ceased in 2012, however the full specs can still be seen of their web site a http://www.erareplicas.com/gt/gt.htm .

This car was imported to the UK in 2006 and at that time was said to be the only example in the England. It was registered as 1965 Ford ‘KYY 461C’ ( Historic ) the UK V5C bearing the chassis number ERA2046. It’s only UK owner embarked on improving the car further adding detail where ever he could, a new Ford 351cui Windsor engine was fitted in 2008 producing 440bhp, the suspension is fully rose jointed, coil over Eibach springs with Spax adjustable shocks and AP 4 pot racing callipers on vented discs. Full engine specs are available. It is geared to give 185mph at 6,500 rpm, if your brave enough.

It is without doubt a beautifully prepared car, extremely well engineered and quite unusual being left hand drive and with the added benefit of air conditioning. The body work and paint are in great order, the build has had a chance to mellow giving the impression of age that every old racing car needs to look so good. It is absolutely on the button and ready to go. It is supplied with UK registration documents some details of the initial construction, the new engine specs and all the build hand books and service manual. A truly stunning example and exhilarating to drive.
