In 1980 BMW launched the R80GS, the first big trail bike with the new concept of ‘Adventure’ on / off road touring. During this time the racing potential of the model was exploited competing in the International Six Day Trial in 1980 and winning the Paris-Dakar in 1981 and again in ’83,’84 and 1985. To this end BMW commissioned a special ‘Dakar’ road version of the R100GS. Examples are not often seen as it was a relatively limited production, however the lineage can be seen today in the modern BMW Adventure motorcycle range.
This Paris-Dakar version of the R100GS was declared manufactured in 1990 and imported to the UK in 2006 from Cyprus. Re registered in the UK, it has had just four recorded owners since then and is showing a mileage of 9,818. We have old MoT’s going back to 2006 when the mileage was 7,025, and documentary evidence back to 2001 showing it at 4,080 miles, we believe the current milage to be genuine.
Overall this bike is a very genuine unmolested example that obviously has not had a hard life, in fact between 2010 – 2013 it covered only 1200 miles. In great running order it has a current MoT until Sept. It is suppled with the factory panniers, tool kit and replacement service and hand books. There are also a number of service bills and maintenance receipts.
A rare opportunity to purchase a really fine example of a truly iconic and great ridding motorcycle.
