Ducati introduced 900 and 750 Super Sport models in 1975, both based around the square case 864cc motor, with the 750cc version sleeved down but with both bikes having the desmodronic valve gear. The 860 was also in production at that time, the bevel motor almost identical but fitted with a electric starter, traditional spring valves and a less radical ‘touring’ styling however the frames were very similar. This 1977 860 GT has been restyled with a race type singe seat and ‘Imola’ long range fuel tank, fitted with ‘rear set’ foot rests, Conti exhausts and Dell Orto 32mm carbs. The engine was rebuilt in Germany in 2009 by a marque specialist and the starter motor removed, it also has a polished swing arm, Brembo calipers and braided brake cables. Although now in ‘Sports’ guise the seating position is not that radical thanks to more upright handlebars.
In fantastic condition throughout the bike runs and rides very well, giving that thunderous exhaust note that only a Ducati bevel has. It is currently registered in Germany but can be UK registered if required with a new UK MoT. It is suppled with invoices for the engine work, German registration docs the milage is currently showing at 11,833 kms.
