The Ducati 916 is the most iconic motorcycle of its time, its style broke the mould of motorcycle design and is still being emulated today, 22 years later ! The combination of fabulous looks, a monstrous 1000cc V twin engine and sublime handling made it a one of the most coveted rides of the period and one of the most collectable Ducati’s today.
The 916 SPS, or ‘Sport Production Special’ featured a 996cc engine with new stronger crankcases developed for WSB, as well as 36mm inlet valves, revised injector modules and upgraded camshafts giving a mighty 134 bhp at the rear wheel. A lighter ‘Corsa’ frame with thinner tubing was used with Showa forks and an Öhlins rear shock.
This UK supplied 2 owner example was registered 20th Jan. 1998 and has only covered a genuine 3,852 with old MoT’s to verify the milage. A full service history bike it is supplied with both keys, all the factory handbooks, service invoices, and paddock stand and original exhaust cans. The original fitment wheels are also supplied, the bike is currently fitted with Marchesini magnesium alloy wheels and Termignoni carbon fibre silencers. No 211 of a total production of 1,462 examples, of which only 250 were built in 1998 it remains in overall excellent condition, a true motorcycling icon.
