The design of XLCR was overseen Willie G Davidson, grandson of one of the original founders, he joined the motor company in 1963 and was promoted to head of styling in 1969. During his tenure his designs also included the FX Super Glide and FXS Low Rider as well as the XL Cafe Racer. Although these bikes never sold particularly well in period they have all become something of legend amongst Harley collectors and enthusiasts today.
Production of the Cafe Racer only ran for two years from ’77-’79, this fine early example was imported in 2019 from Canada and re registered in the UK.
A well presented and matching number example it retains many original features including the key with the AMF logo and the original exhaust system which was prone to much corrosion at the front. It is also supplied with its original owners manual plus a factory service manual.
Only about 3,130 bikes were produced, the majority being sold in the USA, so this is a rare and highly collectable Harley to be offered in the UK. Showing 3,950 miles the bike is in good working order and generally very fine condition.
