Registered 2nd Oct. 1962 this is a genuine very original type 14 series 2 Lotus Elite SE. We understand the first owner purchased the car in semi kit form from Lotus Components and undertook much of the construction himself selling the car in 1965 to the current owners Uncle. The current owner then inherited the car in 1994 after it has been laid up some 20 years. He then commissioned a completed restoration of the car, the original and correct 1216cc FWE Climax engine which was still with the car had a complete rebuild by Tony Barnard at Barnard Engineering, the body being repaired and repainted by fibre glass specialists. The mileage of the car at this time was said to have been about 67,000.
Since then the car has had little use, being stored in a dry garage and only used in the summer months, the current mileage is 74,500. Fitted with its correct ZF gearbox and running through twin SU carburettors the car remains in great condition, the body is near perfect as it has no stress fractures and the paint no blemishes, the interior is still good, the seats were re trimmed in red leather and have a fine patina, the carpets are worn but the car has a wonderful preserved feel. Mechanically the car is on the button and is an absolute delight to drive.
A three owner from new example, this is an older restoration but beautifully preserved. It is supplied with a current MoT, V5C registration document and a history file containing a photo recored of the restoration work. This really is one of the nicest classics we’ve offered for sale.
