Norton’s 500cc twin, the ‘Dominator 88’ found a new home in the ‘Featherbed’ frame in 1951, a proven race frame that had taken the single cylinder Manx engines to many victories in road and track racing.
As there was no factory race 500cc twin at that time many ’88’s were converted by privateer racers to track use, by 1960 the Factory had built a racer that had won the Thruxton 500 creating the term ‘Domiracer’
This Domi 88 was delivered new in 1952 to French agent / dealer HC Garreau in Paris, where it was converted to ‘Domiracer’ spec. It still retains the important twin GP carb set up and a later twin leading shoe front brake.
Used a club racer in period it came to the UK in 2015 and has since been road registered and is supplied with a UK V5C logbook. Having taken part in the Ramsgate Sprint that year it has been used sparingly but remains in generally good order and in good running condition.
