Registered 9th June 1967 this MK1a Tiger was originally sold new to Mr Roy Kemp by Castles of Leicester and registered FP 7236. The original registration number was removed from the car when it was sold to the second owner in the early 1970’s, a Doctor from Shrewsbury. In 2001 it was advertised for sale in the Sunbeam Owners Club magazine and re purchased by the original owner and was subsequently passed to his son, making the car effectively two owners from new.
Originally Midnight blue in colour the car underwent some restoration work in the 1990’s, changing it to red and at some point the engine was replaced with another Ford 260 cui V8 (the original engine is suppled with the car) the rest of the running gear is original.
With an MoT until Nov. 2021 the car remains in generally good condition although now 30 years since the restoration work was completed it would require some further work. The body shell seems sounds, there are some signs of corrosion to the lip of the off side front wing and the paint has some micro blisters, but generally the structure of the car is good.
Mechanically the car runs and drives well, although we gather it has not had much use recently.
It is suppled with a small history file of the work completed in the 1990’s and a number of old MoT’s that go back to 1979, some old logbooks and the current UK V5C.
Of the reported 7000 Tigers built only 800 were supplied to the UK of which there were just 17 MK1a’s, only 10 examples are thought to have survived. A usable car with scope to bring it back to its former glory.
