The 200cc Triumph Tiger Cub proved to be a great success competition off road events, especially in trials, as such the factory produced a host of derivatives that included sports, scrambles, enduro and trail versions that all sold well. Towards the end of production the USA only trail model – the Mountain Cub – was introduced for the 1964 season.
This rare matching numbers ‘Mountain Cub’ was despatched from the factory 19th October 1966 and sent to Johnson Motors, Los Angeles, California. An original US registration tag that is still with the bike shows that it was registered in New Mexico in 1968.
Imported into the UK in 2017 the bike was subject to a comprehensive restoration and has only covered a few miles since, finished in the correct colours of Grenadier Red and Alaskan White this fine example remains in excellent condition and still requires running in. It has also been converted from the transfer ignition to 6v electrics with battery and is easy to start. Supplied with UK registration documents, Triumph dating cert, Haynes manual and a handwritten log of the work carried out. A superb freshly restored example.
