Dispatched from the factory in 4th Dec. 1951 to Mr R Way not much is known about the early history of this series C Rapide until it was purchased in an unrestored state from Millars Motors Ltd of Mitcham, Surrey in 1971 and exported to New Zealand. A lengthy comprehensive restoration was undertaken by the new owner who completed much of the work himself with the help of a local precision engineering company. There is a large history file with the bike that contains much correspondence regarding the purchase and subsequent work. On completion the bike was said to be in very fine order and won several awards at bike shows including the NZ Vincent Owners Club ‘best bike.’
It was returned to the UK in 1990 when purchased by VOC member Alan Smith who continued to keep the bike in good order, further maintenance was carried out by him at his own engineering company and by Vincent specialists Conway Motors. A fully matching number example it remains in excellent condition and has recently been returned to road use after a period of storage. Fitted with Touring mudguards and a new ‘Shadow’ Speedo it is also supplied with a VOC Dating letter and UK registration papers. A well looked after and fine condition bike it has only had 2 owners in the last 48 years !
