When introduced in 1970 Yamaha’s FS1( ‘E’ was for England ) was an instant hit with every 16 year old looking for the freedom of the open road. Even if the two stroke 49cc engine produced just 4.8hp at the crank and cold barely manage 40 mph this was enough to liberate an entire generation. The idea was simple, build a cheap fun moped that satisfied all the legalities of a scooter but that looked like a motorcycle. Some 200,000 of them where built, I don’t know anyone that didn’t have one.
This example from 1974 was restored prior to be part of a large and significant motorcycle collection. A correct matching number machine it remains in great condition and has only covered 95 miles since the work was completed.
