BMW could well be credited with the creation of the modern day ‘Adventure’ motorcycle with the introduction of the R80GS in 1980. Prior to this trail bikes were predominantly light weight single cylinder machines, the introduction of the GS really broke the mould at hailed a whole new generation of large on/off road trail bikes that were much emulated in the late 80’s by the likes of Cagiva, Honda and Yamaha. As such Adventure style motorcycles are very popular today and this is a good opportunity to purchase a nice original, clean and tidy example of the bike that started it all.
This example was supplied by BMW main agents Rainbow motorcycles, Sheffield England and registered 19th August 1988. A two owner bike from new the first owner kept the bike until 2007, according to the service record it was showing 26,400 miles at this time. The service book has regular stamps in it until 2009 when it showed 38,000 miles. After which the bike went abroad. Having been returned to the UK the bike has had a major service, the gearbox rebuilt and a new (reconditioned) shaft fitted. In addition it has been fitted with new tyres and new battery, the bills for all this work came to over £1,400 receipts of which are supplied in the history file with the service book and the current V5C logbook. Now showing 65,600 miles the bike is in great running order, and is generally in nice condition. It also comes with the factory fitted BMW panniers and crash bars.
