Norton factory records show this bike was built August 1971 and dispatched 23rd Sept. to the USA’s east coast distributor, Norton Villiers Corp in New Jersey. A genuine and very rare ‘matching numbers’ 750 Commando SS it is one of just 1,061 bikes built between 1970 and 1971.
Retuned to the UK and re registered it has been the subject of a recent comprehensive restoration which included the engine and gearbox. Fitted with a steel fuel tank the bike is supplied with dating letters from Norton Owners Club and many bills and receipts for new parts used. It remains in absolutely fantastic condition and in great running order.
The SS model with its ‘Street Scrambler’ styling was an export bike aimed directly at the USA market which meant that virtually the entire production ended up in North America with just a few bikes sent to Australia and Europe. Today most of the bikes offered tend to be replica’s that adopt the stying based on existing 750 Commando models, genuine examples rarely come to the market. This is a great opportunity to acquire a genuine fully matching example in pristine restored condition, a must for any avid Norton fan.
