Vincent factory records show that the engine from this Black Shadow was originally delivered to Jack Surtees, Vincent Motorcycle dealer and father of John Surtees four times 500cc motorcycle and F1 World Champion. In fact John Surtees started his apprenticeship at the Vincent motorcycle factory in Stevenage, Herts in February 1951 at about the same time this engine was produced. Now housed in a bike with a Comet UFM also dated from 1951 it has recently been rebuilt along with the rest of the bike by a longtime VOC member and retired engineer. Since completion the bike has only covered about 100 test miles and so will continue to need running in. It is however in great running order and in very fine overall condition. It is supplied with copies of original factory records, a Vincent Owners Club dating certificate and letter and the current UK V5C logbook. SOLD.
